: Faro
Faro, the capital of the Algarve is situated on the south coast of the country. It was already a
important port at the time of Musslims invasion. Was later conquered by D. Afonso III. Almost
destroyed by the english in 1596, when under spanish domination, suffered severely in the earth-
quakes of 1722 and 1755 losing part of its heritage.
Faro, a capital do Algarve, está situada na costa sul do país. Era já um importante porto no tempo das invasões muçulmanas, tendo sido mais tarde conquistada por D. Afonso III. Quase destruída pelos ingleses em 1596, quando Portugal esteve sob domínio espanhol, sofreu graves danos durante os terramotos de 1722 e 1755 , perdendo parte do seu património.
