: Portimão
Portimão is situated on the right bank of the River Arade.
The city was raised to Municipal Capital in 1773 and to that of CITY in 1924.
The city was protected by two forts (XVII) : Santa Catarina, on the right bank, and S. João in the south of Ferragudo.
Portimão is one of the main fishing and canning center in the Algarve. Other items as glassware
wood-work and machinery are produced in Portimão factories.
Portimão está situada na margem direita do rio Arade.
A cidade tornou-se Capital Municipal em 1773 e cidade em 1924.
Portimão era protegida por dois fortes (séc. XVII): Santa Catarina, na margem direita, e S. João ao sul de Ferragudo.
Portimão é um dos principais centros piscatórios e de indústria conserveira do Algarve. Produzem-se também nas suas fábricas produtos de vidro, de madeira e maquinaria.
